On December 14th, the students of Penelope School and the Penelope community celebrated the holiday season by coming together to share a meal with one another. Families stepped out of the cold air and into the local church hall as student, faculty, school board, and community volunteers served homemade turkey and dressing, potatoes and green beans, and a number of delicious desserts.
"It's always great to get the extended Wolverine Family together before the holiday break," Superintendent David Timmons commented.
Alongside the 400 people in attendance was one particularly special volunteer: Cody Harris of the Texas State House of Representatives. Harris was recently elected in November to represent District 8. He spent his visit helping to prepare food and taking the time to meet members of the community.
"I can't thank Penelope ISD and Mr. Timmons enough for allowing me to get to know their students and faculty today," Harris said during his visit. "Penelope ISD embodies why I ran for this office. The culture and heritage that is TEXAS is found in the small communities like this. These schools are the backbone of their communities. I will do everything I can to make sure they have the resources they need to continue the great job they're doing educating the future of Texas. It is an honor to have the opportunity to represent them in Austin."
